Miami’s independent film scene takes center stage on Saturday, August 30 at 8:30 p.m. with “The Backyard Filmmakers (Los Cineastas del Patio de Miami)”, a special showcase honoring the creativity and diversity of local filmmakers who are redefining the city’s audiovisual landscape.
Hosted at the Sala Artefactus (12302 SW 133rd Ct, Miami, FL 33186), a cultural hub for independent art and avant-garde proposals, the evening will present a non-competitive selection of short films that highlight Miami’s emerging cinematic voices:
- Ana y la distancia – Hansel Porras Garcia
- Voicemail – Rubén Machado
- Arroz imperial – Nitsy Grau
- (Title to be announced) – Lester Hamlet
- Humanos – Jean Michel Jomolca
- Silence in the Dark – Steven Salgado
In addition to the screenings, audiences will enjoy a post-show discussion with the filmmakers, offering a unique opportunity to connect directly with the artists and engage in meaningful conversations about independent cinema made in Miami.

The Backyard Filmmakers is the brainchild of filmmaker Steven Salgado, produced in collaboration with Carlos Arteaga and Eddy Díaz Souza, directors of the Artefactus Cultural Project. Together, they aim to build bridges between local creatives and audiences committed to supporting the arts.
